He always said he would only contest if he is sure that the elections would be free of undue influence.

My raw nerve is promoting gossip about any one of our stars.

Hahaha, so that's probably why he has been asked by a lot of clubs to come and contest! Mate, get your so called 'facts' right and stop promoting lies! You seem to pretty damn good at it though, I should add! :)

Thats a lame excuse and you know it. He had the support of MR and the whole government and still lost by an unprecedented margin.

By the way, I'm not disputing AR the cricketer. He's a true legend of SL! Just in case you misunderstand once again.

Lame excuse - that is the same excuse lot of the others use and we give them the benefit of the doubt. you cannot apply a double standard to AR alone.

He had the support of MR not anymore.

It is interesting that you vehemently criticise TS for his actions and then you trumpet his victory. perhaps TS actions had something to do with the margin. again you cannot have it both ways. and as i said before the results of SLC elections have shown that clubs are not an exemplary voter.

If he is a legend, we all have should stop gossiping about him as this article does.

He had the support of MR and the whole government when he was sacked without a reason in 2008? Yeah, makes a lot of sense! :)

My points: (1) He had the support of MR and the whole government last time and still lost in 03.

(2) A few clubs wanting him to contest this time wont make any difference plus he does not have the support of the government anymore.

(3) TS is contesting.

Those three points are exactly why he backed out in the end. He was afraid of losing again.

Pointing out the voting record in 03, the last time AR contested SLC elections, is by no means trumpeting TS's victory. Do not twist hard facts to argue your case.

I wasn't even talking about the contest in 03! I was talking about 08 when he was sacked! Didn't MR become president in 2005? :S So how is MR even connected? And politics wasn't so involved those days! Players didn't run to the president when they didn't get their way!

Dyan,

None of my comments were directed at you, I did notice your comments until now. I may have got the date of the last election wrong. Let me check that out.

Dhyan,

MR was PM in '04, (April) General election until he became President in '05. CBK was the President when SLC elections was held in '04 or '05, I cant find the exact date. But, AR was a government MP at the time. That much is certain.
