If you are saying that the board was involved in cricket those days as much as now, and just cz he was running for the presidency of the board, doesn't mean 'he had the backing of the government'!

If i were to pick a guy to head SLC i think Arjuna Ranatunga will the first name on my list purely for his genuine love for the game and the development. I guess most cricketing fans loved the IPL including myself but what he said about the IPL years back came true it will dictate a player to have to come to a situation where he needs to make his country 2nd.

I guess no one talks about why he was removed, but he fought for the right. if i am not wrong he found out we were procuring lunch packets for double the number of staff we had at the SLC. what happened when he was removed, before any investigations were done things he was looking into all went missing.

I just heard yesterday in parliament the sports minister has passed a new law if u were in jail and involved in a sports betting company u cant run for SLC. so basically Thilanga's nomination is null and void.

About the news if he is vying for the top spot only dhyan malla can tell us that

To Arjuna's son Dian- Dont you think your father should be fair and talk as much about your uncle as he does about Malinga? Compared to your uncle, Malinga is only a minor problem...

@Hatem,
Pure love for the game does not make one suitable for the administrative top position. As many had said several times, he has far more qualities that make him unsuitable for the job.In todays world, an administrator in a cricket body should have the ability to negotiate between IPL(or any other league)and contract. Also handling sports body needs diplomcay and business acumen. It is pretty obvious arjuna does not possess these things.

Another thing is todays cricketers are professionals and not some juveniles who can be controlled by a authoritative character. Also I ve seen many allege that Arjuna is bullish. In such an environment we would experience more and more player and board conflicts if we have Arjuna in the top.

About IPL
I think it is wrong to think IPL as a monster which destroy cricket. And it wont go away in the foreseeable future. So screaming that IPL will destroy cricket would not help us. The result of IPL is it has made player's bargaining power high while making board's bargaining power lower. That is why Arjuna dislike it as he look at it from board's perspective. If Arjuna was a cricketer I dont think we would experience such a dislike from his side. :)

IPL is a reality and SL cricket needs to live with that. After all Sanath would fit as a better administrator than arjuna.

Also how can we have two brothers from the same family in the management board?

If arjuna comes nishantha has to go.....would that happen :)

It doesn't look like Nishantha will go if any board comes cause he keeps coming independent and no man is standing against him. I understand what you mean, but there are many things he says that have come true, this is arjuna im talking about. Dhammika Ranathunga was one of the better CEO's that SLC had for a long time, its a pity he didnt continue.

Getting back to the IPL. the pros and cons are many. but take this as an example. Thissara Perera Year 1 - 50k Year 2 100k (not sure) Year 3 550k and now this year 625k. Thats Rs 80 million a year for next 3 years of IPL now how do you think he would think as a 24 year old, i mean its easy when your young to get dragged out of trying to have your heart with the national team. its easy to say i would have jumped at it tooo...u need to make your money when u can. but look at the aussies they choose and when to play and when not to. Arjuna's fight agianst IPL is purely because it disrupts the international game of a country if the calendar is not adhered too.

I will wait for dhyan malli to answer your brothers question

He was "sacked" because he was trying to get corruption out and sort everything out in the board.. Players picked going to play the IPL over the cricket tour to England in 2008 as I remember.. He said how IPL will destroy our cricket, and it certainly has after 4 years! Everything he has said, has happened! Its about playing for the country 1st! Thats always should be number 1. Look at Australia, they play Bangladesh and then only go to play the IPL. Thats what he's been saying! Country over anything!

About Nishantha bappi, well, Thaththi has come and accused the cricket board, argued about cricket against him in Derana as I remember and saying how the board is not doing it right.. And what Thaththi says about Malinga or anyone, its that they have picked money over playing for cricket.. If thats the case, then, why do we give him a A class contract? Might as well give like a contract Prasanna and Thilan gets right? The board doesn't have a backbone to stand up for the players, and people say "why is politics involved in cricket?".. They seem to forget how the players went and complained to the president in 2008 and told him they want to play the IPL instead of the English tour! People seem to forget that!

Dhyan Ranatunga : With all respect to ur comment, Australia pay their players without fail and good. So Australia play Bangladesh without going to IPL. See what they pay and what our players get in below link discussion

Do you think your dad or SLC had any plan for development of our cricket? If IPL is destroying SL cricket, then why your dad little spoken about SLPL? Even now I dont see any future development in SLC, still they will scratch our players salary

God bless SL players
