Good to know that Chandimal, Sri Lanka's test skipper who has scored 15 international centuries is still an emerging cricketer as per our incompetent chief selector Greame Labrooy. You have to expect these kind of weird acts when you appoint a guy who is kind of "a jack of all trades but a master of none" as the chief selector of a national sports team.

This is ridiculous. These guys play for the national team, A team, B team, Emerging team. Luckyly they are over the age to play for U19 team. Purpose of the Emerging team is to identify new players specially U23 and test those new talents.

I don't see any issue here, our main focus for next 10 month is the 2019 world cup and we need to find a more balance team. We do not have a solid top order which is the main issue right now, also I believe all the T20 matches we have until the next world cup should be played by the one day team so they can use them as practice matches to attack the bowlers. The purpose of Our cricket in whole is to win the world cup, who play emerging cup or A team is not an concern, Dimuth K played the emerging matches with Bangladesh Emerging team and he came good in the next national game against SA.

Labroy may be not the best selector but I think here they are trying to find the correct combination for the world cup next year.

So what are we saying, we are looking to the future of t20 with Dimuth and Chandi? Do we even know where the problem is?

Anyone recall what happened the last time we selected Dimuth for limited overs cricket. Different selectors but he was selected for the 2015 WC squad and he did nothing and hasn't played limited over cricket before or since. Like I said do even know what the problem is?

The problem is batting, bowling and fielding. We do not have wicket taking bowlers, you can't make or create wicket taking bowlers, they are born talent, if you take Malinga, Kuldeep, Chahal, Ajantha Mendis,Vass or any wicket taking bowler you would notice that it is the born talent which make the difference, You can't make Suranga Lakmal a wicket taking bowler, you can make him become a good bowler or dangerous bowler but the wicket taking factor will not be developed with the experience or practice, we have Akila Dananjaya, Lakshan Sandakan and 2 other potential wicket taking bowlers could be Lahiru Kumara and Kasun Rajitha. All of them have the wicket taking factor but what they are lacking is the accuracy.

Batting wise we do not have solid middle order, earlier the issue was we had solid batsmen who could take the inning to the 50th over but the runs they scored was not enough, now we have batsmen who could score more than run a ball but the batting line up will never last 50 overs. So we need to inject one or two technically correct solid top/middle order batsmen. India has Kohli, Rahul Eng have Root,NZ have Tom Lathan, Kane etc.

Whether you like it or not there is no difference between our T20 team and 50 over ODI team, it is the same team who play the both formats. That's why we could not last 50 overs in one day game, most of them have the t20 mindset.
