Jeevan Mendis and Lasith Malinga in preliminary T20 squad to face India

Photo
Spinning all-rounder Jeewan Mendis has been named in the 20-man squad selected for the three-match T20 series against India. Mendis, 34, last played a T20 international in 2013 but it’s not sure whether the former Thomian cricketer would make it to the final squad of 15.

Seekkuge Prasanna is always a better option than Mendis for T20s with his six hitting ability. Not much of a difference as leg spinners but Prasanna is clearly the better t20 batsman imo.

@Big Sam, oh yeah? Prasanna got so many chances but failed over and over. The other noted leg spinner Vandersay dosen't have the hitting power.

For me, if he was correctly managed, Jeewan Mendis would have been the T20 skipper for Sri Lanka long time ago. If you would have followed him, you would have seen his six hitting power in the Big Bash few years back and in England county cricket recently. I've never seen Prasanna clear the ropes in big grounds. Period.

@Big Sam are you really comparing a wild slogger like prasanna with a quality batsman like him, I think even as a bowler mendis is ahead of sekku

Anyone knows why they've selected "Thirimanna" over "Munaweera" who has scored blistering 50 against India last time and is the 3rd most run scorer for SriLanka in 2017 t20s (after Dickwella and Asela) ??

@ stinger : this so called genuine batting all rounder has only one 50 + score in 70 international games, he has represented Sri Lanka. Is it good enough to become a captain? In 16 T20Is he has taken only 6 wickets and scored an aggregate of 197 runs. IMO one major reason for Sri Lanka's 2014 WT20 victory was the omission of Jeevan Mendis from the squad by Jayasuriya's selection panel.

Seekkuge Prasanna is a much better fielder than Mendis who dropped simple catches in important matches. fans who have watched Sri Lanka's first game in 2015 CWC still remember Jeewan Mendis' comical drop catch which paved the way for the Kiwis to go for a very big total.

Besides that I wonder how a player who couldn't do well at division II county cricket is going to become a good international cricketer ?

Guys, Thomians are trained at a very early age to forever support their tribe. They do not care about SL cricket or the motherland they only want to support their fellow Thomian Jeevan Mendis from their tribe (STC). They are conditioned by priests to act like a herd of prey animals. They cant think as individuals.
