Prasad and Thushara dropped from the second Test squad

Sri Lanka's selectors have dumped fast bowlers Dammika Prasad and Thilan Thushara, recalled seamer Nuwan Kulasekara, and included a new face in Shaminda Eranga in their 16-member squad to face West Indies in the second Test starting at the R Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday.

Shaminda has just 23 first class games and he has taken 34 wickets in that at an average of 41.08. How has he made it into this squad?

Found the following in the above article,

"Sri Lanka fast bowling coach Champaka Ramanayake said that Eranga is a bright prospect and is capable of bowling around 140kph. He was discovered during the Pace Ace programme conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in 2006. Eranga, who made his first-class debut in 2006, has taken 34 wickets at a cost of 41 runs apiece."

Where's Nuwan Pradeep? There was some hype about him in the last series.

This series was the perfect opportunity to introduce Senanayake. They didn't even play him in the practice match. He has been performing consistently.I know we got 3 decent spinners, but they should have given him at least one match.I got serious issues about the way selectors treat players using different standards.Senanayake isn't good enough to get a practice game & now this guy walks into a test squad for reasons only known to selectors.Eranga took 5 wickets at 51.8 in 3 matches in the Inter-provincial tournament.

And there you go, This is what I was trying to say b 4 the 1st test.

Our pace attack looked one dimensional, we lacked swing bowlers like kulasekara. Hit the deck hard bowlers in our tracks without any movement means playing in to the hands of over 6 foot tall Gayle and the rest of windies.

On the other hand Thushara has not done any favor for his re-call. It says earlier he was dropped due to injury. But that wasn’t the case afterwards, He did not impress the selectors during the domestic circuit at all that’s why he was away from the national team for long time, yet all of a sudden he got the re-call for the 1st test.

Prasad and Dilhara lack the skill to take wickets in dead pitches like the one in gall. Both have pace and penetration that could be useful in more friendly conditions. There is no doubt in my mind that Kulasekara is not right for test cricket. I don't see him getting wickets if the batsmen don't attack him. Thushara is brainless to say the least. His role in the team is to hit the length and he can't even do that.

To win test matches we need to take 20 wickets. Pick a bowling attack that can do it. When Vaas played tests his role was to support Murali. But we no longer can do that. We need to share 20 wickets among all bowlers.

For the Premedasa wicket dropping Prasad sounds logical but I hope selectors give Dilhara and Prasad a go when we play on bouncier wickets. I hope aravinda understands the fact that wihout Murali we need attacking bowlers in the team.

I think it is his phase which gave him this chance. I read in lanka help web site the someone is mentioning that he bowls at 140. But he did not get a chance in 2nd test but Suranga Lakmal who was in and out from the squad gonna have a chance. Anyway it is good to see many new fast bowlers emerging.
