Sanath Jayasuriya named in Asia Cup Technical Committee

The Asian Cricket Council has named former Test captain Sanath Jayasuriya in the Technical Committee ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup tournament in UAE. Jayasuriya is still the highest run scorer in Asia Cup matches having amassed 1220 runs at an average of 53 and a Strike Rate of 102.

Former captain Sanath Jayasuriya recently named Gunathilaka as one of the players who could break his Sri Lankan record for most ODI centuries – 28.

Same Sanath J is the one who stalled Upul Tharanga's ODI career at 28 yrs of age in mid 2013 for more than 3 years virtually without any ODI exposure. This AXING happened just 3 weeks after, Upul scored his career best ODI score of unbeaten 174* Vs India (his 13th TON)& topped 5,000 runs as 2nd quickest SL in 2013 July.

Sanath picked clueless Dimuth (15.8 av in odi) to open in NZ/WC in 2015 prior to WC, overlooking UT. Dimuth ended up wasting 7 odi innings to collect 106 runs at 15 av – 65 SR thanks to SJ’s parochial selections. UT was overlooked for NZ tour-Test/Odi/WC series squads in 2014 Dec to 2015 April, despite being the highest batting contributor in previous Test series decider with 92 & 45 V PK in the end of 2014. That was SL’s last Test series win against a formidable side up to 2016 & overlooking of highest batting contributor for the next series squad (unrelated to injury), was the first such despicable omission happened in world cricket.

Two previous occasions that SJ omitted UT from the squads selected to Eng comes to my mind. In June 2013 - ICC-CT, he selected Kusal Perera over UT. In that flopped Global tournament Kusal managed 14 runs at 3.50 Av – 61 SR, dumping 4 Odis. But, strangely in the following year 2014 June, UT was overlooked again & Kusal was selected to ODI series in Eng, despite his pitiful record in Eng & the 4 ball duck in Ireland just before the selections. Thanks to SJ, within 2 yrs KJP had played 2 Odis more in Eng than Upul’s 5 Odis in 10 yrs. Just looking at Kusal’ s overall record in Eng: 7 in- 52 runs - 7 av… with Upul’s 5 in – 347 runs- 70 av tells the long story in short : )

Sanath may have prevented Tharanga from reaching his 28 tons record by wiping-off 3+ yrs of Upul's prime Odi career!

It is highly unlikely for Danushka to make that record during his career. He is already 27 yrs and only one Century he has made so far from 33 odis & average is just 30.

Sanath should know better :)

That noise comes from empty pot tells it is empty. I meant SJ’s head. Why it took that long to kick out this idiot that played political games throwing barriers against SL’s best opener, UT. In reality, both Danus and Dikka make big scores rarely, but frequently produce required brisk opening partnership with UT and lay the foundation for the rest of ODI. Unfortunately, selectors very relax with two test batsmen (Chandi/Mathew) specialized in digging grave in middle order (LOL). What was the purpose of domestic tournament when productive, prospective players were ignored? It is absolutely pathetic to still hang on to last decade loser, Mathew.

Former captain Sanath Jayasuriya = Natural born jealousy man. I had respect for this clown but now he is impacted by jealousy about his own countryman. Mr.MDKJulius Caesar, thank you and well said.
