Upul Tharanga thrashed a rollicking 54-ball unbeaten 104 in firing Colombo to the SLC T20 League 2018 Championship title by an emphatic 7-wicket triumph over Dambulla in the final played at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Tharanga’s exhilarating knock was laced with....

Good to see Tharanga batting the way he did when he first came onto the scene. He has put the runs on the board in the right manner to put pressure on selectors to pick/retain him.

Of course domestic performance doesn't automatically mean international success as we have seen with some players but that's all you can ask players to do...get runs, get wickets in big numbers with strong performances and then over to selectors

I won't be surprised if they somehow eliminate Tharanga again from 2019 WC squad, as they shamelessly did when selecting 2015 WC squad, preferring someone from nowhere like Dimuth Karunarathne (over UpulT) to totally flop & slap the WC hopes of millions in SL :)

Tharanga scored over 1000 ODI runs last year (2017). How many batsmen achieved that? Tharanga is guaranteed his place in ODIs. This domestic tournament doesn't matter. Tharanga is our best limited overs opener and one of our best batsmen. He made a century in South Africa 2016-17 season when all others failed on bouncy and pacy wickets in South Africa.

Gotta be said Tharanga has scored a ton of runs at domestic level and at an excellent rate but the issue is the conversion to impact the international level. As repeatedly pointed out by some, it doesn't help that this guy gets dropped all the time. Without a doubt one of the most controversial issues around SLC.

What do u mean by international level? 1k+ odi runs at 50 av and 90+ strike rate last year with Two hundred plus scores Vs SA and Pk, and 95 vs India in his 6 fifty plus scores are not at international level?

Your so called impact cannot be measured in SL success terms since cricket is a team game that cannot be win alone, when having a constantly well below par batting unit and bowlers collectively contributing to the opponent's success!
