Although Thilan failed in this match, I think it's not fair to judge his ability based solely on that particular match. He is one of three top test batsmen in Sri Lanka! True, that he should have played an inning similar to Mathews, unfortunately which did not happen...Better prepare balanced wickets so that there will be a proper contest between bat and ball...This wicket is a total failure !!!

Why drop him ? he Thilan is having a bad time i guess... he is a rock solid test player.....

I am not selector so my cricket knowledge is very limited. He was probably dropped because he is only the 2nd highest ranked Sri Lankan batsmen in tests behind Sangakkara. He also only averages 52 runs in tests. This is one of the worst selection decisions I have ever seen. I wouldn't be surprised if the SL team struggles against Pakistan and then they recall Thilan for the 3rd test.
