Suriyawewa Stadium, Hambantota, Sri Lanka
Built for the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, Suriyawewa Hambantota International Cricket Stadium is the biggest cricket stadium in Sri Lanka measuring 200 meters x 200 meters. In the photo, for the first time since construction began, teams representing Hambantota and Matara played a friendly match on the new pitch in early July, 2010. Suriyawewa Hambantota International Cricket Stadium will host it's first international match when Sri Lanka play Canada on 20 February, 2011 during the ICC World Cup 2011.

Hey Donna!!! - Why you want every thing for Colombo? Why not Matara/Hambantota Districts? I would love to see an ODI being played in Jaffna or Trinco in the near future. The young cricket lovers in those areas must see the International Games and they will take up to 'cricket' once again. During our time Jaffna schools had terrific players such as Naluleshwaran, Shanthikumar, Sooriakumar to name a few. We in Colombo loved to go to Jaffna for the games. We all Srilankans must enjoy the same facilities under a united SL.

Well Done Sirs! H.E. Mahinda and Son Narmal keep the game spreading to out-stations.
But SLC must maintain them properly after the WC-2011 is over

Yes, the name sucks but I'm still impressed. This region needed something of this sort.

@Don Ashley Tyronne
I'm with you on that, let's hope that they'll build a stadium up North. That will be a great victory!

They are in the process of setting up an International stadia there. Mind you H.E. has said that he wants a 'ODI' played there in the near future. Keep your fingers crossed. May be you will see a 'T-20' game or two next year. We are hosting the WC T-20 in year 2012 in SL. Can I appeal to those Nothern people in the international diaspora to send some 'cash' for this worthy cause, i.s.o. sending money for 'Useless' causes. Hope you'll know what that cause was? Millions spent!!!!! and sent by people living abroad. Now rally round - why not have a nice cricket stadium in Jaffna and Trinco as well. Over to S.L.C.
