Asela definitely should play. He was injured, now if he is ok he should be recalled.

Isn't Asela injured?

Asela shouldn't be recalled right now if he isn't injured. He last played in February and has been in horrid form since his injury against India last year. Let him play some cricket and work himself back into form, or it's going to be Mathews all over again.

After our Labrooy became chairman of selection committee Asela has been axed.

Asela won SL so many matches single handedly before his injury and we need a solid middle order bat like him in for all formats.

He has fully recovered but wont be selected.

Ashan Priyanjan has done well in domestic provincial tournament as well.

Upul is Sri Lanka's best opener and nothing can change that fact. He and Kusal Perera should open for all matches with Kusal Mendis at 3.

Dhananjaya is a No 5 or 6. And Chandimal should bat lower.

Imagine how strong this line up will be for Tests:

Kusal Perera
Upul Tharanga
Kusal Mendis
Angelo Mathews
Dhananjaya de Silva
Dinesh Chandimal
Asela Gunaratne
Akila Dananjaya
Suranga Lakmal
Lahiru Kumara
Sandakan Lakshan

No idea what is going on with Asela, he made such an impact and then injured forever it seems, ironically started with a dropped catch which he should have caught.

Tharanga, keeps making tons of runs and is injury free but cannot find a permanent spot.

Overall, most senior, in form/consistent & productive opener in the country in both formats is Upul Tharanga (36 Test Average in past 2 yrs & 50 average in Odis & leading the domestic Super-4 league with 66 av. But he was shamefully overlooked again by the responsible culprits, allergic to see him doing well for SL. I wonder whether there is any value at-all in SLC's domestic High priofile Super4 league performances or consitency showed in terms of International runs during past year or two,for selections?

Now useless Danushka G (Test 12 av/FC 30 av)was sent as replacement gifting a test spot, without doing nothing even in domestic Super-4 league to earn a test spot. What kind of selection policy is this?

It seems, Hathurusinghe & Labrooy happily continue from where SJ left SL cricket's killing process :)

Upul Tharanga had maintained much BETTER Test Average than the following automatic spots granted, fortunate favorites of SL Selectors & Hathurusinghe! Test career stats Since 2016 Jan:

Tharanga : 20 ing - 637 @ 35.38 Av - 2x100- 3 x50

Dimuth K: 47 ing - 1564 @ 34.00 Av - 4x100- 7 x50

Mathews : 33 ing- 941 r @ 28.51 Av - 1x100- 5 x50

KJPerera : 15 ing - 408 @ 27.20 Av - 1x100 - 1 x50

JK Silva : 26 ing- 654 @ 25.15 Av - 1x 100- 3 x50

Being the only SL player to put up 174* international score in Windie's conditions (in previous tour) & with his consistent superb form ( 1k+ odi runs @ 50 av in 2017 & in both formats of domestic Super -4 with 3 match winning tons & 4 fifty pluses, topping L/O batting av etc., etc).... Tharanga should have been selected for the Test squad Vs WI. Tharanga is currently in his career best form & overlooking him preferring plenty of failures will cause to loose our 6th spot in ICC test rankings.

If such a senior pro like Upul with 9k international runs could be treated like this due to his origin, no need to say what is happening to another outer-territory village assert like poor boy Asela bloomed from Kandy.
