Is it a waste of money appointing Hathurusingha for 60 lakhs compared to Pothas 14 lakhs as the head coach?

Exactly what I thought seem it is a waste of money. Coach cant improve the players. It is the high quality players that we need to have a winning formula rather than a different coach. So better utilize this money to unearth new talents rather than wasting on Haturusinghe

I told this earlier also that some people give credit to Haturusinghe to turn the Ban upside down. But actually it is not.

It is BAN players who become more mature with international experience. Players like Tamim, Shakib, Musfiqur and Mahmuddulla become world class players with 6-7 years of internation experience. Hatura was very lucky they become mature on his tenure. Added they got good players like Mustafiqur coming. There were no where Hatura improve the skills of Mustafiqur Rahmann because he immeditaly showed his impact on international areana. Some people given credit for Mustafiqur also to Hatura.

Better utilize this additional 46 monthlly salary of Hatura to unearth new talents from rural areas, conducting Sri Lankan premiur league, New facilities in the grounds and appointing Nic Pothas as the head coach who is doing a decent job it seems.

Actually SL played much much better against fancied India under Nic Pothas than currently in BAN even against lowe ranked teams such ad ZIM and BAN under Haturusinghe

This question itself highlights how stupid and immature our thinking is as Sri Lankans. We definitely need a world-class coach. It is NOT because he would do miracles at this level or because he can turn a number of ordinary players into a world-class unit. We need a very good coach because since we don't have a great selection panel, he might be able to recognize a few talented players or future stars in the squad and give them a longevity to mature into world class players. It is also BECAUSE he can regulate the team when necessary i.e. drop any player/s with diminishing returns, who have been on the team for a long time now but haven't produced results, who are not fast learners at the international level, introduce new and exciting talent into the team and fill those gaps, provide excellent knowledge transfer to improve skills and confidence, etc. A great example is, India. They don't have a good coach/selection panel right now and apparently, the captain has taken all the shots and made lots of changes and ultimately lost the series to SA.

This also doesn't mean a good coach will mask all the gaps in Srilankan cricket - we need a better competitive domestic structure, a good T20 league with best players coming in from overseas, good infrastructure/plan for young and the rural development,etc.. Until that happens we will be like the Windies of the past. Ask this question for yourselves, We boast of having the best school system for cricket, but how many u19 world cups have we won ??

Coach can't perform miracles. Relax. He has been coach for two matches so far.

Mr Shortleg yeh that what I also saying. Coach cant perform miracles. Thats why I think we are wasting our money on a coach. Better utilize that money to unearth new talents. Thats the only way we can get back to where we were. WORLD CLASS PLAYERS the need of an hour. Not a coach

Coach can only do is STRATEGIES PLANS. Even that can perform by us also by analyzing the players. You do not need 60 laks for that

Crick fans who told u we have the best scool system??? My goodness. ok weeven we have the best school system. BUT IT IS ONLY THE SYSTEM MATE. NOT THE PLAYERS !!!!!!

WE DO NOT HAVE QUALITY PLAYERS COMING EVEN IT IS THE BEST SYSTEM. WE DO NOT HAVE PLAYERS LIKE PRITIV SHAW, SHUBAN GILL.

Only quality players in our under 19 team is Jehan Daniels and Kamidu Mendis

Cricket StatsGuru I don't know where to start, your comments are as much irrational as they come :P I am not saying we have the best school system, its people like Roshan Abeysinghe/ Russel Arnold who blabber that in the public.

Why do you think India has good future stars like Pritiv Shaw or Gill? They would be in the wilderness if India hasn't had a competitive and ruthless system in place (Ranji trophy and IPL, of course, have contributed largely). Importantly, it will be easy to pick class players if there is a competitive structure in place. The current situation is such that Indian players will be almost ready to compete at international level once they enter the national side. We, on the other hand, will take quite a lot of time - failing and learning for years until they can even begin to think of competing. Our system won't produce world class cricketers on demand. Also, world class players like Sanga and Mahela are produced only once in a lifetime, so don't expect such players to MAGICALLY appear !!!

IMO rate of quality players being produced would plummet if we don't get a BETTER system than at present. The pace of world cricket is such that we can't also afford to take time to build international quality players. Instead, there should be a pipeline that produces at least few international level players to carry the team forward. A good SYSTEM is the only way to revive our cricket.
