Do you think Tharanga should be instantly AXED (like recent t20 V SA) whenever he hits a brief lean patch?

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A GUY HITTING 28 SIXES & 32 BOUNDARIES (= 296) in his total 414 runs scored from 242 balls facing all the best bowlers of SL in 6 innings?

Upul Tharanga's consistently outstanding batting Achievements since January 2017:

1) Scoring over 1k (1,011) odi runs @ 48 av- 92 SR in 2017 - 2x100+ & 6 x50+ (World's 3rd best odi batter in 2017)

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/...

2) Topping Sri Lanka Super Four Provincial Limited Over Tournament (List-A), 2018 in Batting / with

- Most runs 396 @ 66 Av - 109 SR
- Most Sixes 9 x 6
- Most Boundaries 47 x 4
- Most Hundreds & Fifty plus scores 2 x 100+ & 2 x 50+

From just 6 innings @ 66 Average & 109 SR becoming the Best Batter of the tournament & winning the Championship for Galle, leading the side from front as skipper & scoring a match-winning 124 runs (122b) in the Final, filled with 13 x4 & 3 x6 @ 102 SR.!

3) Topping Sri Lanka SLC T20 League, 2018 in Batting / with

- Most Runs 414 @ 104 Av - 171 SR
- Most Sixes 28 x 6
- Most Boundaries 32 x 4
- Most Hundreds & Fifty plus scores 2 x 100+ & 2 x 50+

From just 6 innings @ 104 Average & 171 SR becoming the Best Batter of the tournament & winning the Championship for Colombo, leading the side from front as skipper & carrying the bat throughout the inning in the Final with a match-winning unbeaten 104* runs (55b) filled with 6 x4 & 9 x6 @ 189 SR ...!

Upul Tharanga also reaffirmed his value as a Match Winning batter in crucial FINALS, apart from the above; again in 2018 Triangular International ODI Tournament played in BD in 2018; winning the Man of The Match award in the final that SL won mainly thanks to his vital highest score (56 runs) of the side helping to build 3 vital stands of 34 for the 2nd wkt, 72 for the 3rd wkt & 45 for the 4th wkt on an extremely difficult wicket.

NO FRONT ORDER BATTER EVEN NEAR UPUL's Overall PERFORMANCES/ACHIEVEMENTS/CONSISTENCY in SL limited Over Cricket in Internationals & Domestic Scenes since Jan 2017.

Problem with this guy is, when hes facing quality swing bowling he always nicks it. He got more than enough experience to dominate Sri Lankan fast bowlers on dusty pitches, anyone knows that. This isnt a suprise.

This guy is not a match winner. He hits a 50 or a 100 in a match, but in a crucial game when we need to win a series or a final of a tri series or world series, he gets out, with the experience he has, he should be doing this more often than other players in the team - but hes not.

Positive VOTERS should be immediately absorbed to KING Kakille's Elite Panel of Judges ... How funny to see this quite often in IC forums/polls :)

No one has denied his value on flat tracks and in limited overs cricket. He's ABSOLUTE rubbish in tests or when there even a hint of swing or seam. With the WC2019 in England, don't think he'd bring any value to be honest. He'll be kicking away to the slips like its Christmas.

And for hathurusinghe chandimal and mendis are better than him...

Truly amazing Opener! It was a delight to watch him whipping all around the park putting best of the best bowlers in SL to the sword. I am one of the lucky guys who watched the fantastic final at RPS. Only a highly skillful batter could hit that many sixes and fours at will to all corners of the park with perfectly executed cricket shots in the text book. Thank you Upul for the entertainment provided to so many cricket fans. You are the best opener we ever had!!!

I watched the fantastic batting display showed by Upul in the the final yesterday and one question bothering me since then. Why did they drop Tharanga for the solitary t20 played vs SA? Did Chandimal, Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilake, Dhanajaya de Silva have done any thing at all in past 12 months compared to Upul Tharanga in domestic or in limited over internationals to be in the playing XI over him ?

I think Hathurusinghe has to get rid of his favorites oriented selection policy & give true performance merit to where it belongs. This is a must for SL cricket to go forward, especially in limited over cricket & to have any hope on upcoming WC in 2019. Any other nation would love to have such an experienced Opener in immaculate form like Tharanga as their Opener!

It is high time to open eyes & shed ongoing petty personal affinities/ preferences based on useless expectations

Hathurusinghe should recognize the true performance abilities, consistently proven even beyond limits to date, to cement Upul Tharanga's spot as SL's permanent Opener & help to build his confidence further by giving him the constant Opening spot in the side in all forthcoming matches leading to World Cup! After all he is one of the most experienced Opener in the world today backed with 9,000 international runs, 18 tons and 45 fifty pluses to be the leading international run-maker in SL today. Beside his past credentials, SIMPLY HE HAD DONE MORE THAN ENOUGH during past 2 years to be the regular Opener in SL side!

"....Problem with this guy is, when hes facing quality swing bowling he always nicks it. He got more than enough experience to dominate Sri Lankan fast bowlers on dusty pitches, anyone knows that. This isnt a suprise..."

Then why the others (who didn't hide under different excuses to skip the league) couldn't do the same in those conditions? Didn't you see how most hyped ones crumbled like crushed eggs in those same conditions?

Didn't you know Tharangsa had scored nearly 7,000 odi runs hitting 15 Centuries & 37 Fifty pluses in seam/bounce/pace conducive conditions prevailing in all Test playing Nations in every corner of the globe facing the best in the trade of seam bowling in their own dens?

Did you forget how he made 119 runs from 90 balls, hitting
11 x 4 & 7x 6 @ 132 SR blasting mighty SA seamers to pieces in their own den in 2017 @ Capetown SA? How do you explain all this? DON"T MAKE STUPID COMMENTS MAN! :D))

Hey man this is Upul Tharanga's ODI career record playing under conditions prevailing in England:

10 odis - 500 runs - 55.55 Average - 88 SR - 2 x 100+ & 3 x 50+

This the BEST EVER SL RECORD to date by any SL batter in England.!!

Didn't you know he had made 5 of his 15 Centuries in NZ, SA, WI, Eng, and made CENTURIES in Conditions in Every Test Playing NATION as Opener except in Aus, where his highest score was Match Winning unbeaten 86* made in Sydney in the decider(missing a certain Ton) in Aus to WIN the First ever Series in Australia by winning the MoM award as well.! As an Opener facing the best of the trade of seam bowling in the world, how did he manage to score near 7,000 Odi runs @ 35 av with 52 X 50+ scores inclusive of 15 Tons to date? By kicking away to the slips like its Christmas....? ha ha Haa...!

how pathetically sick mind you have & how stupid you are is quite evident from this type of hilarious comments man!

FYI Even our EVER BEST Legend batter Kumar Sangakkara had managed only 976 runs @ 48.80 AV with 2 tons playing 2.5 times more innings than Tharanga in England's swing/seam Conditions.!

Sanga's record in England:

25 Odis - 976 runs @ 48.80 Av - 79.67 SR - 2 x 100 - 7 x 50+

Tharanga's record in England:

10 Odis - 500 runs @ 55.55 Av - 88.18 SR - 2 x 100 -3 x 50+

HOW IS THAT...?

Dont know why your taking this personal. A player with experience of Upul, he should win us “crucial games”

You have to understand why some ppl get frustrated with him. Hes got a lot of international experince, hes been playing for so many years now, noone denies hes a decent player. But he always gets 50’s and 100”s in non crucial games. When its a final or a semi final hes always out under 30 runs. This is why we get frustrated with him. When we really really need him to perform hes not there. Other quality players we had like mahela, aravinda, sanga, sanath, dilshan. They deliver in semis, mahela played hell of a inninngs in 2011 world cup semi final.

And then he plays non crucial international game and he gets a 80+ score. Sigh.
