How would you rate Chandimal as a wicketkeeper-batsman?

He recently equaled a Sri Lankan wicket keeping record, i think.

Good I reckon. His record as its stands now is good but I think he has the potential to grow in to the role both as a batter and wickey. I think we need to give him an extended run in the team. He has been around for a while as batter and can play all three formats and is a wickey so at this juncture I reckon he is the best option,.

Give Kusal Perera a chance. He is a good wicket-keeper. When KS retires, Kusal can open and Karunaratna can bat at no. 3.

Hi Yaka,

You may be right. But If Kusal is average, then it is the job of the coaching staff to help him to improve.

I think Chandimal's wicket-keeping is below-par for Tests, he's okay for ODIs and T20s but for Test match cricket, one needs a specialist/proper wicket-keeper.

The two catches KS took at first slip were the wicket-keepers catches - fortunately KS caught it. The same happened in the 2nd Test but KS dropped it that time. All those three were the wicket- keepers catches, and he didn't have to dive to catch it - very average keeping in my opinion, though he had equaled Amal Silva's record by some stroke of luck.

Chandimal also dropped at catch on the leg side which deprived Dhammika Perera of getting a second five-for. PJ and Dickwella would have gobbled up those catches with ease. Niroshan Dickwella is the second best wicket-keeper in the country but the selectors opt for the 4th best - even Kaushal Silva is a more accomplished wicket-keeper than Chandimal.

His keeping was alright, I wouldn't say he's the greatest gloveman but reasonable enough.
I would like to see him bat higher up the order. Perhaps number 4.

He had a record breaking Test recently with gloves which is great, and good for him. But for a keeper to get these catches and stumpings the bowler must create the chances. So whilst he did great to take the chances, some credit has to go to bowlers.
