My argument here is with Chandika Haturusinghe getting the highest salary ever by a Sri Lankan coach to showing this kind of poor performances against this poor West Indies team I doubt whether this is worthwhile.

Nic Pothas who has dis regarded by SL cricket after appointing Hathurusighe has joined West Indies cricket seem to be doing a very good job with their team.

Just a one odd series against BAN at the beginning of the year we are BACK TO WHERE WE WERE PERFORMING WELL IN LAST FEW SERIES.

Could not qualify for final in home Nidhas trophy with a deplated IND side and the BAN team who were outperform by AFG 3-0 in T20 series.

Now could not give even a match to 9th rank WEST INDIES TEAM. How AWFUL team is this !!!!!!

He is just another coach with a typical Colombo-based mindset only to back his buddies like Chandimal, Mathews, Mendis etc & totally ignoring well in-form productive batters raised outside city limits.

What a waste of money for Hathurusingha. he is good to talk not to coach. Thilanga led cricket management Ruined srilankan cricket and brought a coach who is not even better than former under 19 coach AVISHKA GUNAWARDANA. Thilanga and Gurusingha discouraged the former coach and made the way for him to leave srilankan cricket even before the end of his tenure who was doing a very good job by defeating AUSTRALIA. so now it has come to the end of srilankan cricket. Hathurusingha brought his Aussie friends to give different type of training for the boys but nothing has helped to uplift the standard of srilankan cricket now it is sinking with Hathurusingha. what a pathetic situation srilankan cricket is in at the moment.

How many test runs Chandika Hathurisinghe's favorite opener Kusal Mendis had scored outside subcontinent conditions/ pitches? How many runs opener KJP had scored outside SC?

Past 2 yrs since 2016 Mathews' test batting average is in the 20s,had he accomplish anything even in domestic tournaments to earn a spot in tests? What had Chandimal done with an Odi average in low 20s & match killing SR in the 60s in odis to get selected for odis automatically?

You don't need a millions paid super coach, who is blind to understand this fact. Especially when the experienced opener Dimuth is unavailable, well in-form most experienced opener Upul Tharanga (in immaculate form with tons in both formats of domestic Super-4 & internationals since 2017)should have been the automatic choice (with a career best odi score of 174* made in Windies conditions in his previous tour).

But for Selectors & Hathurusinghe he is just another player hailed from outside (outer territory) the limits of their radar.

Windies needed just one ball to get rid of KJP & just 3 overs to clean up both openers edging to slips & put SL tottering with 2/16. Clearly it was not the same ball game played in docile subcontinent conditions where these guys have any hope of survival :)

Mathews edged to slips the 1st ball he faced & got lucky to survive & fell in the same way just a few minutes after...! Is this Test cricket from a player who had played 72 test matches? If he is no more productive why is he there?

this series is a good measurement of true abilities of much spoken Roshen Silva as well.

When departing overrated SL unit had high hopes & predicting about a comfortable series win in WI... now what? Opener KJP extended his = <10-ball innings by one more in the 2nd shy as well... just now opener Mendis in his 2nd shy got lucky to be dropped by the keeper to survive further.

already Struggling SL team can at least save this 1st test that would be something to brag about for Hathurusinghe....LOL

I don't think this is a fair question as the coach is paid the market rate or what ever was negotiated. Also SLC headhunted Hathu who was coaching Bangladesh and would have cost a premium. The fact that SL cricket are unable to compete at international level and have been going through a tough time is not Hathu's fault and neither is it a basis for his salary. We know who is responsible for the current issues in SL cricket and it's certainly not the coach who has just arrived!

I’m just sitting here shaking my head at some of these comments. Yeah hes Sri lankan coach, so we shouldnt pay a high salary? When did the nationality become the trigger to decide how much to pay the coach. His salary is well deserved. He brought up next to nowhere bangla team and made them a decent team.

I dont understand why us Sri lankans just ignore the elephant in the room and try to find someone to blame for the situation the team is in right now. You guys always just pick a player or the coach. Then that blamed person get replaced and a new one come and a group of people blame him, then that person gets replaced, then blame the new one.

Some didnt like ford, some didnt like pothas, some dont like hathurusingha.

Be smarter than this, no matter what player is picked, no matter what coach is picked. Lets support them, the players that gets picked 95% of the time is becuase they performed in domestic level. Some for experience, some of balance.

The coach is a good coach. He may not be the beat coach, but hes one of the good ones, just like ford.

Blame the people running SLC, I dont like sumathipala one bit, I atleast like him more than nishantha. Nishantha ruined our team. Now hes trying to get back in power. I’m not a supporter of either of them but seeing my fellow lankans just switch the blame around just pains me.

No coach is going to perform miracles especially when the system and structure needs revitalisation.
He will need a few series home and away to be properly judged but other factors like the domestic system, selections, A side, Youth teams etc will play part in overall outcome
