He is THIRTY SEVEN tomorrow!!!!! my only guess/hope is that even though he is playing the 3 day match, he is just being looked at as a potential stop gap solution for the ODI series where we are struggling to find death bowlers, with Prasad, Chameera and Malinga all out with injury.

If he plays a test ahead of Vishva or even the teenage Fernando, it will be a huge mistake, for many reasons. One, he has not played 3 day cricket consistently. Two, he is most likely break down or hold back due to injury. Third and most important, we need to look FORWARD!

I can see someone like Paranavitana being selected at 34 since he has at least another 3 years to offer. But not a fast bowler at 37, especially one from Sri Lanka where even 20+ year olds are falling after one match!

There are lot of young fast bowlers who are much better than so called 1st choicer Lakmal leave alone Dilhara.
We shoudnt go backwards with this Fernando there are 2 more of them who deserves to be there,Not to forget Rajitha also.

I don't want to say bad things about him on his birthday but let's see if he gets wickets in this game on P Sara track with a bit more bounce and carry than some other tracks in Sri Lanka. But unlikely.
I think his best is past him in test cricket. Unless he has suddenly started swinging the ball or bowling cutters. Need to move on.
