Credit should be given to Australia, the way they bowled, batted and fielded but this is about what we could have done better

Though we lost, it was a good fight and the wicket was very tough but the way Finch batted shows how we went wrong. I thought our batters didnt take enough risks, considering the long batting lineup... 275 and the game is ours..

Had Mathews early on taken Smith catch it would have been a different result.

In fact Aussies are poor running on one excellent bowler, Starc's back. We give a wicket or two in every match to him at the very first over or so and create pressure on ourselves. Why not both openers and top order batsmen collectively come to a plan just to see off Starc without trying to score off him from next games onwards. Aussies will struggle with other bowlers.

Voted for "not attacking enough in the first 10". Yes,we had a below par score, but on that dustbowl we could have defended it with better tactics. Finch is just another clueless FTB who looks like a joke when facing quality spin. He was owned by rookie indian slow left armers in IPL. It's a pity that Mathews didn't go for the kill from the start. If he had used Aponso and Dilruwan wisely in the first 10,instead of gifting runs with Dilshan and his own part time assortments, this match could have had a different result.

Kick non performers like Kusal Janith Perers, Dilshan and Milinda and bring performing young blood to the team to win matches like we did in the test series. Also Mathews must understand his responsibilities and bat like and experienced matured captain not like a school boy cricketer. keeping Kusal Janith perera, Dilshan and Milinda in the team without giving opportunities to young performers is waste of money, time and the abilities of those young ones.

wasn't the easiest pitch to bat on but you have to make do.
Middle order collapse set the team back. Chandimal did well but his injury restricted him.

Its a mix of most things mentioned above. But credit should go to Australia. Faulkner, Starc bowled really well. Do curators really need to go that far to prepare such a slow wicket? We were struggling to time the ball well and in the evening even though it turned a log ball came bit better. Mathews should have attack more in the middle overs. Amila Aponso bowled well and he seems to have all the armory that Herath has. Good prospect for sure.
