Delan - You say the same thing over and over. First thing is we all admit that Chandimal has illegal substance in side his pocket, and honestly I also believe he should have more awareness of the law and what has been happening lately and avoid eating anything on the field. That is true there is no denials. May be Chandimal intentionally did that and that we do not know.

My point here is and has been that ICC nor any judicial system can punish anyone if they do not have conclusive evidence. If you take this case to a higher court or any other independent judicial system then Chandimal will never be convicted. That is general knowledge. It is not like on field umpire given the verdict OUT so if 3rd umpire do not have conclusive evidence he cannot overturn the decision, it's not like the cricket rule,These umpires and match refree acted based on the that rule, but in real world, looking at that video nobody can prove Chandimal had something illegal in that time frame. so ICC playing a different game here and acted surprisingly different compared to all other incident related to ball tampering, we are being a small nation doesn't mean we should dance to ICC tune.

If it happens to Tharanga or any other player I wouldn't really care, but if SLC decided to support Tharanga then I will also stand by the SLC's decision, like I (we as a nation) did in Kusal Perera's case, but If it is Tharanga or any other neutral player I wouldn't be writing, commenting or defending like this on any forum like this for sure(I will but not up to this level). This is a sport and it is natural that we support our favourite players. For example I like the fact that SA appealed the case against Rabada-Smith and as neutral fan I was very delighted to see that decision was overturned. For Faf's case I knew even if he appealed the case he will still be convicted because there were enough evidence in that video frame.

It's not that I am blindly supporting Chandimal, Chandimal had 2 match ban due to slow overate and another 2 match ban due to physical contact with the indian baller. So that is fine where they had clear evidence and all, but here we have a case that we should fight for and stand by Chandimal and SLC.

and Delan- I honestly do not expect you to respond my comments. I have my view point and you have your own. My view on this matter not align with you is not something you should get offended. You shouldn't be really checking my profile, user name/etc (I mean it doesn't really matter and I am fine with that) but what I am saying is you do not have to go that level and personally get offended and accused other people. I am just a Chandimal fan and I stand by him. You have your view and I just respect it, even in this poll 25% has a different view and 75% has another view.

cricexp - You keep addressing me so I keep responding. Already said a couple of posts ago we have difference of opinions.

Courts will go by what law of the land is. In this instance being a sport they will look at laws of that and see if it was followed. Why would sports have laws if they are not to be followed?
If it was as you said SLC would go and route...

The first link you gave does not work/exist the second is a blog where the author is another Sri Lankan is it not?
Need I say more...

So the only evidence or answers to any questions asked back to you is to quote former ball tampering culprits and Sri Lankans with similar stance and mentality on such views. Then write/send these to sports minister and tell SLC to go to high courts or arbitration to overturn...you can already see from some press conferences SLC back-pedalling and begging for leniency. They wouldn't if they were strongly confident in the defences as you and the similar saying would they.

No harm checking people when numerous use pseudonoms or multiple profiles. I understand people in positions of authority or having been within board doing so but everyday common fans and journalists shouldn't have nothing to hide.

You get different types of fans the ones obsessed with certain players and say anything to defend them, the ones anti-players because they rival their own favourites and those in between that will take players as they come and on performances.
What happens when the first type keep using rubbish claims and denials to promote their favourites by any means is those in middle start to get fed up hearing about it and sick of that player. You should know that having seen that with players like the Mubarak, Thiramanee and best examples of late Upul Tharanga. Same with the one you stand behind by any means.

Opinions based on favoritism and links and recently SLC and some of its fans have adopted the us against the world mentality where everything/one is a conspiracy against it when in reality they have become ill-disciplined and large whingers. That's how it is viewed by the outside world.

Delan- If sports have laws that should be applied equally and consistently, where in some occasion you see the decision overturned due to lack of evidence and some cases you convict the guy without having concrete evidence purely based on on field umpires or match refree's decisions.

Regarding types of fans, I see 4 types of fans. Loyal fans, Blindly loyal fans, Neutral fans, Local haters. You can't run a game if you do not have loyal fans. That is same everywhere in the world, even in Aussi's ball tampering case 85% of fans believe that the punishment they received was too harsh and they don't deserve anything more than 2-4 match ban, They believe Smith, Warner had to pay for revolt they had on pay hike against Sutherland. They are the loyal fans and they support and sticks with the team/players through adversity. That's the type of loyal fans.Blindly loyal fans are the one who says Smith/Warner has not done anything wrong, They blindly support whatever they do even if they are provided with enough evidence. Neutral fans are the ones who follow the game when the team is doing good, or only when they are free from work, or when there is a important tournament like world cup or triangular, etc, Loyal fans continues to support even if the team continues to perform poorly, but neutral fans are different and they start to criticise the team, players and lose the faith. Local Haters are the ones who want to lose matches so his favorite player will eventually get a chance to play, One good example is the Tharanga fan, he want every other player to fail so eventually Tharanga will secure a place in the team, Now Most of current Aussi fans also belong to this bucket where I have seen so many comments saying that Eng should whitewash Aussie at least then the management will realise the depth of the punishment/mistake they did to Smith-Warner dual. There was a famous incident happened in Sri Lanka as well not sure if you can remember when the selectors dropped Aravinda for the New Zealand tour due fitness issue and in the end Arjuna, Murali and Promodhya also boycotted that tour supporting Aravinda. Fans, media also stood by Aravinda(Obviously) and most of them want SL to lose all the matches in NZ.

Whatever it is sports will not grow if you do not have loyal fans. That's what happened to WI, WI grounds used to be full house when they have Lara,Chanderpaul,Walls,Ambrose etc. Now they do not have players to support or to be a fan of, It's the same situation in SL and Pak as well, the last fans' hero we had was Dilshan, and now we have Kusal Perera up to some level.

Loyal fans are not limited to cricket, its all over the world, if you check NFL or more recently Liverpool’s Jon Flanagan incident where despite he being convicted and sentenced on domestic violence charge the fans and liverpool management still want him to play for his team. There are 1000s of examples in other sports where loyal fans go and bat for the favourite team/player regardless of their behaviour. There is a psychology there where sports fans see their favourite teams/players as extensions of themselves. You are being a neutral fan doesn't mean you should hate or dislike the loyal fans.

Sorry that the links didn't work please go through the article named "ICC made serious mistakes to provoke the conduct contrary to spirit of the game – Must warn not suspend Lankans" published on Island Cricket (I think it was published yesterday), and yes it was written by a local and I know you only accept what the white men (or Aussie) says is true. But just go through the article and try to figure out his points and facts.

cricexp - the below link has been shared today and "Confused" has provided a good answer to it. Nothing more to add to that.

As for your 85% thought Smith and Warner penalty too harsh...where is the 85% from? Australia? Lots of sympathy from Asia/Asians..some Australians wanted life bans especially for Warner. Saw a few write such even today after Warner named captain of his T20 franchise in Canada.

Are you using the poll from Island cricket for this value? It was a divided nation not clear cut 80 odd %

Again with the old cases...yes I know the Aravinda situation. His was fitness issue from local board as opposed to being charged with by the governing body of the sport. How is this a like for like comparison?

There is a difference between being loyal and supporting players or the team when they are say performing badly and coming up with nonsense excuses to justify behaviour and charges.

What has this case or poll got to do with crowd numbers in stadiums in West Indies or anywhere else? Nothing!!! Certainly doesn't justify what took place in that 2nd Test!

Being neutral in opinion means you disregard colour, ethnicity, background in matters etc has nothing to do with which teams you support...

Oh yes I only accept white (Aussie) people views as you said...I think just about sums up every bit of defence for Chandimal you have used in this thread and everything about how you form your opinions and views. When all else fails play the racist card. Every post is for white support! Btw Javagaal Srinath very white too! hahaha.
Now that is what you call getting completely desperate!!!

Read the response and Follow the link that Confused has posted to the post which you referred in your 2nd link

Delan- Racism started when you say "The first link you gave does not work/exist the second is a blog where the author is another Sri Lankan is it not?
Need I say more..."

All the cricket world including former players all around the world think that the punishment was too harsh.

cricexp - so is he not a Sri Lankan? Does his profile not suggest/say that?

Where did was my mention of black/white or any other colour.

Yes ALL the cricket world that's why they increased the currently penalties to clamp down on on ball tampering which given the inequality of matches played by some teams will be how long a ban?

Bear in mind they got 1 match suspensions by ICC only which was maximum.
CA gave them year ban not for ball tampering per se by breaches by employees to several things! Something that SLC does not look like they are even considering.

You want to know what a harsh penalty is in terms of cricket then look no further than Sri Lanka's Rebel players to South Africa, again board decision not governing body! Different issues but tough penalties to employees.
