Why was Dasun Shanaka dropped in the first place? I don't recall him having poor form. Did well in the 1 Test vs England, did well in his debut ODI's against Ireland and was dropped after a few ODI's in England. He got dropped for the Australia tour last year because spinning allrounders would be more uselful (understandable), but he should've been picked for the T20's/ODI's against SA.

It's so very saddening not to see Thisara develop his game after 2013/14. Last time Lanka toured SA, he was in his prime. That knock in Kimberley was superb, such a shame that our team lost out on such a talented player.

Neither Shanaka or Siriwardana deserved to be dropped. In conditions suited to seamers Shanaka is a handful, and he's primarily an attacking batsmen, which is something we desperately need. He should be in the side at no.6, especially with the champions trophy being in England.

The no.7 spot is a toss up between Siriwardana, Pathirana, and Prasanna. Siriwardana is the best batsman of the three, while Pathirana is a better bowler. Difference between those two is marginal in both departments, although Pathirana is definitely a better fielder. Prasanna is more inconsistent, but can be lethal on his day.

Agree with PraveenP. For conditions in England Shanaka as well as Thisara would be handy. But when considering the reliability as a batsman, I would also like to go with Shanaka for ODIs.

However, I think it is fair to give a chance to a player like Ashan Priyanjan in the upcoming ODIs against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

Like the 3 comments I don't get why Shanaka was dropped in the first place. I thought he did reasonably well and has skills we so desperately need. Some decent seam and big hitting skills. We are trying all these players which is great but lets no forget guys who haven't really been given a proper chance.

Even Siriwardene I thought deserved a longer shot. Again he did reasonably well in test cricket and had decent skills for one day cricket but has been forgotten.

I am all for trying out new players but we are now playing a game of musical chairs which will get us no where.
