Slow going mismatch Chandimal is automatically selected for ODIs despite repeated failures in Odis & in domestic Super-4.!

Chandimal in Odis Since Jan 2017:

20 odis - 18 ings - 400 runs - 23 Average - 61 STRIKE RATE..!

Injury prone Mathews is automatically selected to Tests despite doing nothing in recent times in domestic cricket to get selected (super 4 tournament etc)& total failure in Tests during past 2 years -

Mathews in Tests since May 2016:

15 Tests - 2 ings - 860 runs @ 29 Average ...!!!!

On the other hand, Upul Tharanga had asked for just 6 months break from Tests to concentrate on Odis & T20s during his brief tenure as skipper in mid 2017. That Six months is well exceeded now and he is available for selections.

But only their personal favorites (like Chandimal, Mathews etc) backing selectors (Graeme Labrooy & coach Hathurusinghe), totally ignored the most in form experienced senior batter Upul Tharanga, despite continuing his excellent form from 2017 (one of the 3 batters in the world who topped 1,000 odi runs in 2017.

Even In recent domestic Super-4 tournaments, Tharanga was the ONLY front order batter among SL's current international batters, who made tons in both formats.

As usual, obviously the Colombo backing selectors' repeated ignorance/blind-eye to recognize this "out-of-hub" originated front order batter's current form, experience & abilities.... is killing the essence of a impartial selection criteria. Why do they still promote this despicable double-standard policy, if really thinking aboutsalvaging SL cricket?

The only players in this list who CAN play all three formats are kjp, dickwella, danushka and sadeera... Of them, only danushka can be good opener imo, others should be middle order players... Still, I think it's unrealistic to expect one of our players to open in all formats, specially in tests we'll be having different openers... Btw, this list doesn't have kusal mendis..

Hard one this as there aren't many around. Come to think of it Warner and Dhawan come to mind but not many more. From the list, the only one who comes close is Upul Tharanga who has done the job for SL in all formats.

looking forward I would pick Sadeera as a potential. I see the popular one if KJP - not sure if he is up to opening tests.

majority think Kjp 46% & Tharanga 24% as the best options to open across all formats. quite rightly, in overall performance-wise no one else was impressive enough to secure even 10% of the votes.

but, poor tharanga was overlooked again, despite his continuing superb form from 2017 (1k odi runs- near 50 av -
90+ sr) & his recent well made tons in both formats of domestic high-profile super-4 provincial tournaments. but rapidly fading unfit Mathews (29 test innings -29 av since 2016) was granted a gratis spot again (probably to return home early as seen previous few series) despite utter failure in recent super-4 as well.

shame on selectors.!

How many test runs Chandika Hathurisinghe's favorite opener Kusal Mendis had scored outside subcontinent conditions/ pitches? How many runs opener KJP had scored outside SC?

Windies needed just one ball to get rid of KJP & just 3 overs to clean up both openers edging to slips & put SL tottering with 2/16. Clearly it was not the same ball game played in docile subcontinent conditions where these guys have any hope of survival :)

Mathews edged to slips the 1st ball he faced & got lucky to survive & fell in the same way just a few minutes after...! Is this Test cricket from a player who had played 72 test matches? If he is no more productive why is he there?

this series is a good measurement of true abilities of much spoken Roshen Silva as well.

Why SL overlooked the best & most experienced Opener (Upul Tharanga) they have (in immaculate form), preferring theses mediocre guys repeatedly failed outside SC? Especially when experienced regular test opener Dimuth K is unavailable?

When departing overrated SL unit had high hopes & predicting about a comfortable series win in WI... now what? Opener KJP extended his = <10-ball innings by one more in the 2nd shy as well... just now opener Mendis in his 2nd shy got lucky to be dropped by the keeper to survive further.

already Struggling SL team can at least save this 1st test that would be something to brag about for Hathurusinghe....LOL

People who has voted kjp and danushka better check their heads and stay on facebook forever...
