The captain needs to be able to justify their own position in all 3 formats as a player first and foremost.

Of the list you have given only Mathews can do that at present.

Milinda is well on his way but still early days in his career. We saw what happens when you burden a youngster with VC before they are fully established in the side as a player. At the moment he is looking extremely good for the future across all formats if he can keep going like he has been.

Lahiru & Dinesh have certain formats they are stronger in than the other...shame the selectors keep mixing them up. With time maybe they will both adapt to all formats on consistent basis. Dinesh slowly starting to but can't get too excited yet.

Dinesh Chandimal is the best

he has improved his English with few heavy words

Most of the time, Chandimal's answer is YANNE KOHEDA MALLEY POL

Muu nam mah Booruwek.. Lankawe Cricket kanna Aaapu ekek..

Nodokin Chandimal..

Delan82 Yeah I agree with u. Chandimal's place in all three formats is justified. He is playing well. He is aggressive captain. Mathews is v v defensive, trust me he will not win matches with this team.

Chandimal has been one of few positives from the disastrous Asia Cup however people should not get too carried away.

I am happy to see Chandimal doing well after being promoted to open but this is the first tournament/series that he has been consistent with bat in T20s but for me I need to see him to the same in 2 or 3 series to say he is suitable for that format.

I don't like to people "cement' their spots on virtue of one or two innings or one series..it is not enough.

Hopefully his form continues in the World T20. We need him to go on and score big once he has made a start.
