There should not be permanent positions for Bowlers as selection should be based on playing conditions (opponent, climate, pitch etc). Top of that bowlers need to be rested periodically even within series to avoid injuries.

Dilruwan was made an opening [though his 1st Cl Ba Av was below 24 in 2007, and placed way down, 145th position in the Batting Aves’ list after 2005/2006 1st Cl Season/ Stats can be verified at Cricketarchives.com or Cricinfo] bat by a selector from his hometown who was responsible for bringing in many an ordinary player into the National stream, the list is very long to describe here. This incompetent selector was one of the main culprits for deterioration of our Cricket standards. Dilruwan cannot be considered as a batsman cos even now his 1st Cl Ba Av is read as 24 after 300 odd 1st Cl Innings. After failing as a Batter, he was he was included in a T20I against AUS in Pallekele in Aug 2011 as a bowler in dropping Ajantha a time when Ajantha was the No 1 ranked T20I bowler in 2011, up to now not a single media personnel nor an administrator quarried about this heinous crime. I strongly feel both Dilruwan and Herath [ they need pitches tailor made for spinners to take wkts ] should be replaced by tall spinners such as RohanJayatissa, Senanayake, Maduka Liyanapathiranage, Malinda Pushpakumara, Lasith Embuldeniya,Praveen Jayawardene,... that can spin the ball better and extract bounce & lift of the pitch. Both Herath & Dilruwan have been given too many oppertunities than two were realy deserved in ruining careers of many a star class spinners produced by our schools of last 1& half decades.
