A left hand right hand combination is vital for opening the batting. Dilshan has to stay hence a leftie is needed to partner him.

Its not about the left right combination or anything else. But his experience over 300 ODIs should be good enough for him to bat at number 4 which is one of the most critical batting positions. Anybody can bat withing the first 10 overs to loft the ball over the ring. You don't need experience of 300 + matches (as a middle order batsman) to do that. That's why you need dashing batsmen like Dilshan and Chandimal at the top.

Mahela and Sanga should bat at number 4 and 5 respectively.
