Sujan, I know that you love the guy, we love him too. I mean, he's been such a great servant for Sri Lankan cricket, and if not for him our team would never have reached such heights over the past decade or so. He was a very special and unique member of the team along with Murali.
But everything has to come to an end man, and in Sanath's case, it's evident that age is catching up. He's no more the dashing stroke player he was, that brilliant hand-eye co-ordination is not there anymore. He's come to the point of no return.
The problem is not that; either he doesn't realize this situation or he doesn't want to accept it. By continuously denying that he's not up there at the required level, not only he blocks the career path of a potent youngster, he also loses the respect he had from millions of loyal fans. These rumors about a political influence isn't helping either.
In my opinion, he should call it quits right now (he should have done that a few months earlier actually) and should continue serving the country with his newly acquired political powers. And I know most of the Sri Lankans would agree with me. Fans still love him, but if this carries on for too long, people will duly forget his unmatchable services to this country and start hating him.
Nonetheless, as you said, legend will remain a legend. But that legend must ensure that he'll remain as a legend in people's hearts too, not only in books.
No hard feelings I guess, Sujan :)

I understand mate, but being a loyal fan I have that hope in him, he has never disappointed. He's my inspiration.

I loved when I read this, have a look at it: http://www.islandcricket.lk/news/srilank...
