There is a dearth in spin-bowling talent in Sri Lanka - Roshan Abeysinghe

I wouldn't say there is a dearth of spin bowling talent. Vandersay has been impressive and is likely to get a test debut in the Aus series. Kaushal gets massive turn, he just needs to get better control and make his doosra legal. Then there are others like Sandaken, Pushpakumara, Aponso, A Dhanajaya, Dhanajaya de Silva, P Jayasuriya.

In the recent England series, we had no specialist spinner (aside from Randiv who got one game). Prasanna has shown he is a poor bowler in internationals and he is in the team because of his two innings of slogging. I'd much rather have Siriwardena back in the team because he is an intelligent bowler as well as a proper batsman who has a better range of shots. Same with Shanaka, he is a better batsman than Prasanna.

But back to the spin bowling, I think there are spinners who can become world class.

Agreed with Anonymous. we do have talent but the selectors do not provide much opportunities to those players like lakshan who can turn the ball and got lot of wickets at domestic level as well. no use of sticking to the players like prasanna who could not get wickets since he was basically selected to the team as a bowler.

Now is the time to groom couple rookie spinners like Lakshan, Tharindu Kaushal, Akila Dhananjaya etc and give them enough opportunities to develop so that we have some decent spinners when Herath is calling it a day.
