Undoubtedly this the best & most consistent high-octane stroke filled batting display ever seen in any tournament played in SL
(414 runs scored from 242 balls - 104 Av - 172 SR facing all the best bowlers in SL from 6 innings.! 296 runs came from 28 SIXES & 32 BOUNDARIES alone)

I watched the fantastic batting display showed by Upul in the the final yesterday and one question bothering me since then. Why did they drop Tharanga for the solitary t20 played vs SA? Did Chandimal, Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilake, Dhanajaya de Silva have done any thing at all in past 12 months compared to Upul Tharanga in domestic or in limited over internationals to be in the playing XI over him ?

I think Hathurusinghe has to get rid of his favorites oriented selection policy & give true performance merit to where it belongs. This is a must for SL cricket to go forward, especially in limited over cricket & to have any hope on upcoming WC in 2019. Any other nation would love to have such an experienced Opener in immaculate form like Tharanga as their Opener!

It is high time to open eyes & shed ongoing petty personal affinities/ preferences based on useless expectations

Hathurusinghe should recognize the true performance abilities, consistently proven even beyond limits to date, to cement Upul Tharanga's spot as SL's permanent Opener & help to build his confidence further by giving him the constant Opening spot in the side in all forthcoming matches leading to World Cup! After all he is one of the most experienced Opener in the world today backed with 9,000 international runs, 18 tons and 45 fifty pluses to be the leading international run-maker in SL today. Beside his past credentials, SIMPLY HE HAD DONE MORE THAN ENOUGH during past 2 years to be the regular Opener in SL side!

Angelo Mathews is the chief wrecker of Upul Tharanga's cricket career.
